Growing up instead of out saves space in tight urban areas; garden structures like arbors and trellises can create drama and a sense of seclusion, or bring height and depth to small spaces.

After several years in the making, we couldn’t wait to debut our most recent trellis designs, the Annabel Tipi Trellis and the Geo Tomato Cage, at Dwell on Design in Los Angeles. This was our third year exhibiting at this giant design event, the ultimate indoor/outdoor playground for people sourcing modern living products, innovations, and ideas.
Like fashion, gardens are now transitioning from their vibrant summer looks into the more muted tones of the fall season. Our summer was loaded with horticultural and design inspiration, bursting with color and texture from diverse landscapes coast to coast. Below is a photo journal of some magical summer moments; a mashup of images from private potager gardens, to island farms to spectacular public spaces.
It was an amazing week at Dwell on Design 2013! This annual week-long event, curated by the editors of Dwell magazine, showcases the most innovative and sustainable ideas in modern design, art and architecture. This year's show was by far the best we've seen and we were thrilled to be a part of it again. It also takes place in our own hometown of Los Angeles! How lucky is that?
It's artichoke season on California.
During a photoshoot for our new Sculptural Wildlife Habitats (Bee Bungalow, Birdy Bungalow and Birdy Cafe -blog post to come!) we stumbled upon a gorgeous un-staged scene in our edible garden studio that took our breath away. It involved a fruiting artichoke, a bougainvillea 'Orange King' an Akoris Garden Tuteur Sr. in Berry color and a Mira Garden Trellis Sr. in Aubergine color.
Pictured is her gorgeous composition of climbing rose 'Joseph's Coat' with our two Ina Wall Trellis Sr. in oxide finish. What a beautiful way to cover a boring house or garden wall. We say to her "stunning" and of course "thank you for such a lovely email!"
